6 New Water Adventures to Try This Fall

Learning to swim is crucial for foundational skill-building and feeling comfortable in the water. But, it also leads to other opportunities to be in the water after learning to keep yourself safe when swimming. Trying other water activities and water sports can give you new ways to enjoy the water, and some of them are even available through fall.

6 Water Activities to Try This Fall

The following water adventures are ideal for swimming enthusiasts looking for more opportunities to get in the water, even as summer transitions to fall.

1. Kayaking

Kayaks are available for one or two people, so you can constantly tailor this water activity to your current social group. Plus, you stay above the water in a kayak, so this sport is excellent for people in areas where the water is already getting a bit too chilly for swimming. Like other water activities, kayaking can be as casual or competitive as you'd like it to be.

2. Indoor Water Park

An indoor water park is fun for the whole family. With water slides, lazy rivers, group tube slides, splash pads, and more, you can usually find a water activity you love at these water parks. Plus, they're temperature controlled inside, so they're perfect for getting some swimming and water fun in, even when it's chilly outside.

3. Water Polo

Water polo is best for swimmers who enjoy some competitive water play. Indoor swimming pools in recreational centers typically offer water polo as one of their swimming activities, either for people to play on competitive teams or to enjoy with groups of friends.

4. Windsurfing

Go windsurfing on a windy day to enjoy the fresh air and soak up beautiful water-filled surroundings without actually having to swim in chilly water. Windsurfing generally requires some level of surfing knowledge, so you might want to save this activity for a next-level activity after participating in some surfing training.

5. Artistic Swimming

This activity blends dance, movement, and swimming. It's an excellent option for people with access to an indoor pool and who love to swim. With artistic swimming, swimmers move in the water to choreographed routines set to music. It's a great way to continue on a water-based exercise journey, as this type of swimming builds muscle, endurance, and aerobic capacity.

6. Stand-Up Paddleboarding

Stand-up paddleboarding lets you enjoy the water from above. This trendy activity is great for building muscle while relaxing on the water. Get together a pack of stand-up paddleboarding friends to spend a fall day on the lake.
